Distinguishing Features of the Work

Directs the operation of the Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation's statewide reimbursement function.

Provides direct and indirect supervision to technical and non-technical supporting personnel. Reports to a Mental Health Administrative Services Director.

Develops division policies. Establishes program standards and accountability for field operations, and for the internal auditing and quality assurance functions. Oversees operation of the computerized accounts receivable system. Provides budgetary revenue projections by facility to the Mental Health/Mental Retardation's central fiscal office.

Provides key liaison with the attorney General's Office, court systems, Medicare/Medicaid, and the social security administration. Establishes training programs for staff deve1opment.

 

Qualification Guideline

Knowledge of hospital accounting/collection principles and methods. Knowledge of related laws, statutes, and court proceedings. Knowledge of automated accounting systems. Ability to develop and administer related policies and procedures. Ability to train and direct technical and non-technical supporting personnel. Ability to analyze program results.

Graduation from a college or university with a degree preferably in accounting, business administration, or a related field; and management-level experience in hospital accounting/collections or a similar environment that included responsibility for a multi-million dollar budget. Training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for college graduation.
