Distinguishing Features of the Work

Serves as the lead reimbursement representative in a large Mental Health Mental Retardation regional reimbursement office.

Supervises Mental Hospital Reimbursement Representatives. Reports to a Mental Health Reimbursement Supervisor B.

Positions assigned to this class provide a review and initial approval of Reimbursement Representatives' decisions and case summaries prior to final approval by a Mental Health Reimbursement Supervisor B.

Determines case priorities. Approves payer daily rates arranged by Reimbursement Representatives. Reviews potential legal cases, and advises on actions to be taken. Coordinates court dates. Establishes operating procedures with the accounts receivable

section.

Advises reimbursement representatives on complex cases. Participates in difficult negotiations with families. Conducts annual case reviews to determine if patients have acquired additional financial assets. Makes recommendations to write off uncollectible account payments.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of hospital accounting practices. Ability to deal with clients, families, attorneys and others in sensitive personal matters. Ability to analyze personal financial situations. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to travel.

Graduation from high school. College graduation preferred. Experience related to the duties of the position, especially in hospital accounting/collections. Experience with court proceedings preferred. Training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for college graduation.
