Distinguishing Features of the Work

Directs all administrative activities at an intermediate size Mental Health/ Retardation facility.

General supervision is exercised over administrative department heads and/or subordinate supervisors. Reports to the facility director.

Positions allocated to this class function as chief administrators in facilities serving specialized populations such as geriatric and/or retarded persons who require more intensive residential, logistical, and health services. Such facilities have budgets and supporting staffs at the mid-range in relation to Mental Health/Retardation facilities as a whole.

Duties are similar to those performed by the Facility Administrator A; except administrators at the B level rely more on accomplishing day to day administrative functions through administrative department heads, and sometimes through contractual arrangements. Serves as a member of the facility's senior staff.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of accounting and fiscal management procedures. Knowledge of hospital administration and institutional support functions. Ability to plan and implement operating policies and procedures. Ability to plan and direct the work of professional support staff.

Graduation from a college or university preferably with a degree in business, hospital, or public administration; and experience related to the duties of the position. Training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for college graduation.
