Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises administrative support units or services in a Mental Health/Retardation facility, or at the staff level in the agency central offices.

May supervise administrative department heads or other technical support personnel. Reports to a facility or central office administrator.

Areas of responsibility may include general administrative supervision of facility physical support services such as buildings and grounds, food service, and purchasing; hospital fiscal operations; or staff work in policies and procedures development.

Duties may include coordinating the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds, implementing preventative maintenance programs, supervising the purchasing of supplies and equipment, establishing inventory controls, budget preparation, and supervising the maintenance of accounting records and reports.

Staff duties may include agency-wide studies of methods, procedures, and costs for providing support services such as food and laundry services, security, purchasing, and personnel management.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of accounting and fiscal management procedures. Knowledge of hospital administration and institutional support functions. Ability to plan and implement operating policies and procedures. Ability to plan and direct the work of professional support staff.

Graduation from a college or university preferably with a degree in business, hospital, or public administration; and experience related to the duties of the position. Training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for college graduation.
