Distinguishing Features of the Work

Manages the operations function in an installation where the existence of a complex hardware configuration, such as a distributed processing network, necessitates statewide coordination, a high level of technical expertise, and interface with a large number and variety of data processers and users.

Plans, organizes and directs a combination of data entry, data control, computer operation and remote job entry activities. Provides technical direction in the development and implementation of operating procedures. Coordinates user and technical functions, and resolves problems. Assists in budgetary and other management planning and monitoring. May also supervise system engineers.

Typically reports to a higher level technical superior or non-technical agency administrator.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from a college or university, plus considerable experience in computer operations, programming, systems analysis or engineering. Receipt of a related associate degree or suitable experience in one or more of the aforementioned areas may substitue for college graduation. In any event, incumbents must possess a thorough working knowledge of computer operations, and have performed successfully in supervisory or management assignments.
