DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Serves as an advanced technical specialist in providing systems hardware/software support services at a large computer center utilizing a teleprocessing network to support multiple state agencies.

Technical specialization Includes systems programming and products, performance measurement and tuning, data networks and communications, data base, simulation/modeling and benchmarking, etc. Works with vendor personnel to obtain support for agency customers. Performs analysis to estimate Impact of new standards, procedures, software/hardware, or network configuration changes. Develops and conducts classes for customer agencies and in-house personnel.

May report to a Computer Systems Chief Engineer or other technical superior.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from a college or university with major study In computer science, management information, engineering, mathematics, or a related discipline, plus advanced experience ln appropriate technical areas. Receipt of a related associate degree, or suitable experience In systems analysis, skilled programming or computer operations management may substitute for college graduation.

Specialized skills typically Include: design, Implementation and maintenance of software for system programming and products, data communications, and data base; installation of network facilities; hardware configuration; performance monitoring and tuning; capacity planning; and ability to conceive and conduct technical training.
