Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs duties of considerable difficulty in providing technical systems hardware/software support services.

The work of this class covers a range of technical functions spanning such areas as: telecommunications; hardware design; system control software analysis; data base administration; performance measurement and evaluation; equipment maintenance. Incumbents normally possess comprehensive knowledge in more than one area, and perform duties of considerable complexity. May provide supervision to less experienced technicians.

Receives direction from a higher level technician or other supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATION GUIDE

Graduation from a college or university with major study in computer science, management information, engineering, mathematics or a related discipline, plus considerable experience in an acceptable, technical area. Receipt of a related associate degree, or suitable experience in systems analysis, skilled programming, or computer operations management may substitute for college graduation. Related graduate study may partially substitute for experience.

Specialized skills typically include one or more of the following: extensive electronic repair and hardware fabrication skills; ability to install and maintain vendor/user supplied software packages within a system control software environment; in-depth knowledge of time-sharing and micro-processor systems; thorough knowledge of hardware and telecommunication system management; thorough knowledge of data base management; ability to design and implement a performance measurement program.
