Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs duties of average difficulty in providing technical systems hardware/software support services.

The work of this class encompasses the following areas: data communications, field engineering, systems control software, configuration analysis, performance measurement, data base administration, and similar technical services. Incumbents customarily perform duties of average difficulty in one specialty while obtaining familiarity in others.

Receives direction from a higher level technician or other supervisor.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from a college or university with major study in computer science, management information, engineering, mathematics or a related discipline, plus some experience in an acceptable technical area. Receipt of a related associate degree, or suitable experience in systems analysis, skilled programming or computer operations management may substitute for college education. Related gratduate study may partially substitute for experience.

Specialized skills typically include one or more of the following: basic electronic repair and hardware fabrication; general knowledge of application software interfaces in a time-sharing environment; working knowledge of telecommunications capabilities/limitations; design and maintenance of data bases; working knowledge of one or more higher level programming languages.
