Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises the systems development function in an agency with a number of programmers and analysts engaged in systems development and maintenance work.

Studies user requests, makes personnel assignments, and supervises project planning and scheduling. Reviews analysts' work; and project progress and documentation. Submits status reports to superiors. May serve as project manager in an environment where a number of new systems are in the development stages. May serve as the data processing manager in small or medium sized organizations.

Reports to a higher level data processing manager or agency administrator.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from a college or university, plus considerable experience in systems analysis and design including supervisory or project manager/leader experience. Receipt of a related associate degree or extensive experience as a skilled programmer/analyst may also be qualifying. In any event, incumbents must be thoroughly knowledgeable in system analysis and design concepts and methods, and have proven ability to define and develop solutions to user needs. Must also be able to interact effectively with user and data processing personnel both orally and in written communications.
