Distinguishing Features of the Workd

Defines user system requirements and translates requirements into computer and related manual system specifications.

Confers with user management, department heads, etc., to analyze and document system needs, conduct feasibility studies, and evaluate alternative procedures. Designs systems and specifications to meet needs. May serve as project manager for coordinating between user and data processing personnel, for problem resolution, and for project evaluation and implementation. Determines priorities. Informs management on project progress. May serve as the top data processing position in small organizations.

Reports to a systems development supervisor, other data processing management position, or agency administrator.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from a college or university, plus significant experience in systems analysis and design. Receipt of an associate degree in information systems or extensive experience as a skilled programmer/analyst may also be qualifying. In any event, incumbents must be thoroughly knowledgeable in systems analysis and design concepts and methods, and have proven ability to define and develop solutions to user needs. Must also be able to interact effectively with user and data processing personnel both orally and in written communications.
