Distinguishing Features of the Work

Designs, develops and maintains segments of complex programs or complete programs of low to moderate complexity.

Translates written or oral instructions into source code in a programming language. Tests programs and evaluates results making corrections as necessary. Documents completed programs. Work independently in flow-charting, coding, testing and in performing other technical functions subject to the review of higher level programming or systems personnel.

Reports to a higher level programmer/analyst or other supervisor.

 

Qualification Guide

Qualification under any one of the alternatives prescribed for Programmer Trainee, plus sufficient programming experience to work independently at a journeyman level. Demonstrated skill in at least one programming language such as COBOL, FORTRAN, PL/1, Assembler, RPG, etc. Demonstrated skill in translating written or oral instructions into source code.
